Serving youth aged 0-19 living in the tri-county area -Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Erie - are eligible for services.
Our counseling program offers a solution-focused approach that centers on strengths and skill building. We firmly believe that all individuals are competent, are able to identify their needs and problems, and are able to achieve their goals and develop workable solutions to their problems.
We work as part of a team to offer support and information aimed at achieving results. We do not prescribe medication or perform psychological assessments, but we can provide linkages to other services when they are needed.
The Rural Youth Counseling Program provides services to youth both individually and in family combinations such as a child who may have two families because of a divorce. Whether individually, in groups, or in family settings, we work with participant to solve problems and develop skills.
A team approach is emphasized that supports the entire family system. In addition, we may offer peer group sessions to assist youth in enhancing a wide range of skills.
Only adults who have children enrolled in the program are eligible for counseling. Some of the issues we work on with parents are:
Helping them understand child development
Patterns of human interaction
Stress management
Problem solving
Interpersonal communication
The effects of trauma and disorders
